Carnivore Expedition Overview
Expedition client(s) will begin their adventure early in the morning (~6:00 a.m.) with a 4wd transport from their place of lodging to the staging area for the sunrise and snow tracking component of the expedition. The client(s) will then transfer into an all-terrain vehicle with one of the two guides present and begin the search for fresh tracks. When fresh tracks are located, the expedition team will convene on the tracks and tracking hounds will be released. At this point, the client(s) will have the option of hiking with the tracking guide and hounds (lion and bobcat only) on the “race” or continue with the vehicle transport to get as close to where the animal is treed and then trek to this location. Finally, the apex of the expedition, the client(s) will have the “once in a lifetime” opportunity of photographing these elusive carnivores up close (20-50 feet away) in a wild and scenic setting. Once the client(s) is satisfied with the photographs acquired, the hounds are pulled from the area and the animal is allowed to be on its way. The client(s) will be guided back to the closest vehicle and then transported back to their place of lodging.

Mountain LionThe Mountain Lion is embodied by the title “Ghost of the Rockies”, for when in their presence they may be felt but are rarely seen. This magnificent golden cat has mastered the art of concealment by only hunting the remote broken canyons and high mesas of the plateau in the blackness of night. Possessing cryptic senses of hearing and sight in combination with unmatched strength and speed makes the puma one of the least photographed of North Americas wild animals. But as winter snows blanket the favorite haunts of this American lion, the tracks of this great cat are revealed. If a glimpse into the fiery-green eyes of one of these golden ghosts calls to you, then come ‘Experience the Edge’ with Bodhi Expeditions!

Black BearThe black bear is the “King of Beasts” on the Colorado Plateau. With its hulking mass and almost mythical strength and stature, this bruin makes wherever its wandering through the vast forests of this landscape its domain. Although this brute is quite common, its incredible sense of smell and remarkable speed allows it to avoid encounters from all but the most determined observers. And like all bears, as snow blanket the forest floor, the coldest winter months becomes a time of solitude and rest. But as the snow relinquishes its grip, these goliaths converge in mass to gorge on fresh spring shoots. If standing in the shadow of this great beast calls to you, then come 'Experience the Edge' with Bodhi Expeditions!

BobcatThis spotted wildcat is one of the Colorado Plateaus most exotic looking and beautiful animals. Yet due to its perfect camouflage and elusive behavior it is one of the most difficult wild animals to observe in the wild. Although more common than its cousin the mountain lion, the bobcats fiery disposition, small size, and physical endurance create an extreme challenge to even the most tenacious pursuers. But as the winter snows blanket the deep forests that are the favorite haunts of the bobcat, the tracks of this mysterious cat are revealed. If being mesmerized by the beauty of one of these spirited cats calls to you, then come 'Experience the Edge' with Bodhi Expeditions!
